AkzoNobel completes capacity expansion at Vietnam multi-site
New York’s historic Hudson Yards development – which is changing the city’s iconic skyline – has reached its latest milestone, and AkzoNobel has made a major contribution.
The largest private real estate development in US history, the ongoing project recently saw completion of the two towers at 10 and 30 Hudson Yards. Taller than the Empire State Building, the impressive glass and steel structure of 30 Hudson Yards uses AkzoNobel’s high performance Interpon D architectural powder coatings. In fact, most of the aluminum on the tower is coated with Interpon D3000 Fluromax metallic powder coatings, including the highly prominent first five stories.
Described as a template for the future of cities, the new Manhattan neighborhood represents one of the most complex construction projects New York has ever seen – with AkzoNobel also supplying powder and liquid coatings for several other new buildings in various stages of completion.
“We have a long track record of supplying market-leading products for iconic buildings all over the world and are very excited to be involved in the Hudson Yards development,” adds Daniela Vlad, Managing Director of AkzoNobel’s Powder Coatings business. “Customers value our unique ability to supply top quality powder and liquid coatings and meet any specification, no matter how demanding.”
A stand-out feature of 30 Hudson Yards is an outdoor observation deck which is the highest in the western hemisphere. Expected to open to the public in 2020, it rises 335 meters (1,100 feet) in the air and extends 20 meters (65 feet) from the building.
Hudson Yards will eventually encompass more than 20 buildings, including residential and office space, retail outlets, restaurants and a luxury hotel.
AkzoNobel’s Interpon products can already be found not too far away on One Vanderbilt, 50 and 35 Hudson Yards, 425 Park Avenue and Essex Building in New York City.
